Marchese srl, importer of Lobsters from Cuba

Carribean lobsters; Panulirus Argus, are one of the highest quality breed of lobsters: they are without claws and have very tender flesh and a delicate taste, which has meet the high appreciation of our European consumers. Marchese srl has an exclusive agreement with a top Cuban seafood Company for the supply of live and cooked lobsters. Marchese is the sole authorized importer for Europe.

Live lobster have a 10 % death rate;
Refrigerated cooked lobsters have 10 days expiry.

Shipping is by air-freight and within 24 hours from their departure they are delivered to our customers. We only import lobsters that have all the necessary import documentation and in particular the health and veterinary certificates .

Live lobsters (Panulirus Argus) from Cuba

Packaging: Live lobsters are packed in polystyrene foam boxes (gross weight 11,5 kilos, net weight 10 kilos) filled with dry ice and paper sheets that ensure the temperature and freshness of the product is guaranteed.

Zone and fishing method: Carribean lobsters are fished in the insular platform of Cuba. The basket fishing method is used to ensure no damage to the lobsters.

Production : After the capture of the live lobsters they are placed in special reproduction areas; after 48 hours of placement the lobsters are ready for the packaging The lobsters undergo a special thermical treatment in salt water between 13 and 15 degrees for approximately 3 minutes to reduce their vital functions, then the lobsters are packed in dry ice -18 degrees and covered with paper sheets.

Maintenance and Transport temperature : In order to maintain lobsters in a hibernationc state, they must be maintained at a temperature between 14 and 15 degrees.

Conditions necessary to maintain the lobsters alive

Lobsters must be kept in special tanks with the following characteristics;
- The level of oxygen in the water must be higher than 5 mg/litre.
- The level of salt must be between 35 and 37%.
- The temperature of the water must be between 18 and 20 degrees.
- The level of ammonia must be less than 0.2 PPM.
- The minimum proportion of salt water is 14 litres for each kilo of lobster to maintain the vitality.


Availability : Lobsters are availiable from 15 june to 5 march of each year.

Sales : Live lobsters are not sold during the annual reproduction period; from 1 February till 30 June.

Marchese srl has also in the range: lobster tails which are shelled or not shelled and precooked and raw : The flesh of the tail is white, smooth and succulent.
